How does fraud detection work?

  1. 1

    Every sign-up is checked

Each new participant goes through more than a dozen checks, such as the same IP address, browser fingerprint, email similarity, burner emails and data center IPs. Each one can raise the fraud risk score.

  2. 2

Suspicious people are flagged, not blocked

Every participant gets a fraud risk: Low, Medium or High. Risky ones go to Participants to review for fraud, so colleagues who sign up from one office still get in.

  3. 3

    You decide

Keep them or delete them. The fraud risk is a suggestion, and the call is yours. Spot someone yourself? Click Flag Participant in their profile.

  4. 4

    Stop it before it starts

Set double opt-in to Invitee only, so friends verify their email before they count, and add invisible reCaptcha, which no one has to solve.

FAQ

Fraud detection FAQ

How does Viral Loops spot fraud?

Each sign-up goes through more than a dozen checks, including the same IP address, browser fingerprint, email address similarity, burner emails and data center IPs. Each check can raise the participant's fraud risk score.

Will real people get blocked?

The fraud system flags suspicious people instead of blocking them. Colleagues who sign up from one office share an IP address, so they go to Participants to review for fraud, and you decide.

What do Low, Medium and High mean?

How risky a participant looks, based on the checks. Review the high-risk ones in the dashboard, then keep or delete them.

How does double opt-in help?

Friends verify their email before they become participants. Until they do, they don't count, don't show on the dashboard and aren't in exports. It is on Growing and up.

What is the advanced fraud analysis?

On Power, an on-demand AI analysis finds fraudulent activity in your campaign and returns a CSV of bad referrals and participants. It is suggested for campaigns with more than 5,000 participants.

Can I check a reward before it's sent?

Yes. Each reward in Rewards Management shows the participant's Fraud Risk, so you can check it before you redeem.
